About

Project 25 (P25 or APCO-25) is a suite of standards for digital mobile radio communications designed for use by public safety organizations in North America.  P25 radios are a direct replacement for analog VHF/UHF (example FM) radios but add the ability to transfer data as well as voice.

As amateur radio history has shown, technologies from public safety and commercial applications often find their way into our hands.  DMR is another example of this very same technology migration.

Our P25 Amateur Radio Network was initially called The Indiana Quantar Network because the core was based upon a Motorola AstroTac 3000 Comparator and accepted V.24 connection which were inherent to the Quantar series of repeaters.  With the recent advent of MMDVM connectivity it has come possible for non-Quantar or non-native V.24 repeaters to join the network, thus facilitating a name change to Indiana P25 Amateur Radio Network.

Along with the MMDVM connectivity came the ability to also connect MMDVM-based hotspots as well.  Details on this connectivity will be detailed in a separate page.
